Triple Screen

Today was my 16 week appointment with Dr. Powar, which meant it was time for the triple screen test. After I peed in a cup and got weighed (+4 lbs), Dr. Powar put the fetal doppler on my belly and we immediately heard the heartbeat. I told him about my scare during Superbowl and he reminded me that his machine is much more expensive and of higher quality than the rentals, so to fear not. The triple screen was a simple blood test in my arm that identifies pregnancies that are at a higher than average risk of certain birth defects such as spinal bifida and Down syndrome. Dr. Powar said we will hear back within a week if there is a problem and otherwise we can assume that all is well. My next appointment in two weeks will be the big ultrasound where we get to see Baby Iken again and hopefully be able to tell if it is a he or she - can't wait!!!

We decided that our coed shower will be at Ang's house on Sunday, June 1st - about six weeks before my due date.
